Over the Australian Summer of Tennis 2017-18 the big story was the sudden rise of 18 year-old Alex De Minaur which gained him a berth in Australia’s Davis Cup tie against Germany and saw him push world #5 Alexander Zverev to a fifth set tie-breaker.
Everyone needs heros and role models so Alex’s success must be inspirational for the next generation of aspiring young Australian players. De Minaur himself has been a member of the Australian Junior Davis Cup team and has been carefully mentored by Tennis Australia and Lleyton Hewitt over the last few years who have taken him to Davis Cup ties first as a spectator, then hitting partner and now as a team member.
The Foundation recently introduced a Junior Membership category in a bid to foster interest in the Davis Cup amongst the younger generation, so we thought you may be interested in reading a bit about one of our very promising junior members. His name is Cooper White, 14 year-old son of Anna White who has been an active helper of the ADCTF for a number of years. Like De Minaur, Cooper has had a successful summer of tennis, including playing in three tournaments in New Zealand, which enabled him to rapidly improve his ranking and make him a contender for selection for our Junior Davis Cup Team.
